breakfast in bed

breakfast in bed

I’ve only ever ordered breakfast in bed on vacation a handful of times. It’s a seemingly luxurious experience (probably because of the accompanying bill): you’re starting your day with a slow morning, savoring your favorite breakfast foods and relaxing in the comfort of the covers.

In a society dominated by “hustle culture” my life was craving just the opposite; a moment to slow down and enjoy the pleasure that comes with allowing yourself to be in the moment.

I decided that breakfast in bed was the perfect way to achieve that feeling, so I scheduled every Sunday morning as “Sunday’s in Bed” in my calendar. It’s the one day a week I don’t rush to get up and hit the ground running, instead allowing myself to sleep in and savor the morning.

How I make at home breakfast in bed feel like a vacation:

  • putting on my comfiest lounge wear (it's the matching sweat suit for me)

  • putting all my extra pillows on the bed to prop myself up but still be comfortable

  • lighting my favorite candle and keeping fresh flowers (from TJ Maxx and Trader Joe's, respectively) on my bedroom vanity

  • using the clear tray I purchased from West Elm to keep coffee spills at bay

  • my current read of choice or a podcast episode to listen to

  • my favorite breakfast that I normally don't prepare during the week for an extra special touch

  • coffee! mimosa! bloody mary!
