Lokl Cafe

the story of Lokl Cafe immediately pulled at my heart strings.

Opened by two friends, one born in New Jersey and one born in Greece, who wanted to bring a European style cafe to the US.

Both of Greek heritage, Yianni and Peter loved the flavors traditional to their culture. As they traveled together around the US and Europe, they would experience food made with quality ingredients bursting with delicious flavor, but couldn't find the same thing upon arriving back at home.

Their cafe, located in Morristown New Jersey, immediately transports you. With maps and globes lining the walls and ceiling, the space is comforting and airy at the same time. I felt like I stepped in the front door off South Street and right into Greece. The pastry counter added to the feel, with pistachio and chocolate baklava, croissants of all varieties and sandwiches prepared for take away.

I ordered the cold brew, black, and a slice of each baklava. I took my seat at the front of the cafe at the windows facing the street. In the rear of the shop, comfy chairs and couches welcome guests. Traditional tables line the walls along the perimeter, along with outdoor seating on the sidewalk out front.

The baklava was delightful, crunchy layers of flavor in each bite. The coffee, roasted by Rock Canyon Coffee in the mountains of Colorado, smooth and delicious.

I couldn't have summarized Lokl Cafe better than the following:

"Peter and Yianni believe that with great food and drink comes an experience beyond measures of taste and smell; that its origin story means something. Why not tell this story, evoking feelings of bliss and nostalgia, and inspiring one’s curiosity — just as the cups of “café” from Peter’s childhood and the recipes of Yianni's ancestors did for them?"

If you ever find yourself in Morristown New Jersey, do not miss this local gem.
